Nope, Snapchat chat doesn't seem to affect score! I guess it would be good if it did though, as it would get your score up quicker. You can see your scores when you touch the 'Snapchat' logo on the snaps page:

The first number is the amount of snaps you've sent, the second is the number of snaps you've received (Sent | Received). Add these two numbers together and you get your overall Snapchat score!

The chat function on Snapchat is more just an added feature so that you can have quick conversations with friends. It doesn't affect score as it's not considered a 'snap'.

What I think is really cool about Snapchat chat is that if your pal is using Snapchat at the same moment as you, you can quickly video call them! Just press and hold the little yellow button on the right and you'll start videoing!

Not sure why you'd need to video one another brushing your teeth... But there you go.

Snapchat chat or instant messenger does not affect your score.

When you instant message someone on snapchat, your score will stay the same as it was. This is because score is only affected by the number of photo or video snaps that you receive or send.

This is where you can view your current snapchat score.

If you want to test this yourself, just look at your current score, then instant message a few people. Look at your score again after you have done this and you will see it should be the same as it was before.

As well as on the snapchat stories page of the app, you can also view your score by doing the following things:

Under the feed screen, tap 'Snapchat'
Then your overall score is the sum of the two numbers shown, which will be your sent and received snaps.

So really the 'chat' part of the app is just an added feature to make it easier to communicate with people, but is not classed as an actual 'snap' which the app was designed for.
