Thee are N ports on the LAN and the multiple sub-networks are connected. These sub-networks are connected through the passive optical couplers. There are stations in the system which are attached through a duplex-optic link. This can be either attached directly with the switch port or with the sub-network. If it is attached with the sub-network then sub-network will be further attached with the passive optical combiner and passive optical splitter.
