You must have a USB(universal serial bus) attach it to the cpu port then transfer all the data into it. After doing that you can put of the USB and delete all data from drive C:/. If you want to have a new hardware you must have to install the window of you will then to transfer all data from the USB to the drive C:/ of present working window.
That's all that you have to do to exchange you old hard drive with a new one.

Yes it is possible if there is 80 GB space in the external hard drive. It is possible to copy entire c drive to external hard drive. But it is not possible to copy installed programmes, only operating system files can be copied into the hard drive.

I know that you can do this but I'm having problems doing it with my computer because some files just can't be moved or saved

After I have tranfered data to a ext hard drive,   then how do clear that data off the hard drive?
