The big advantage of the DVDs that you can carry or save a handsome amount of data, but the disadvantage is that the DVDs are not good reliable source for long time. Especially the scratches can easily destroy you data!
I suppose it depends on in what capacity, dvds if stored correctly can hold data for years, they used to be a good means for storing backup data and such but in current times the 4.7gb capacity (or even the 8 gig of a dual layer) is fairly minuscule and flash media and ever cheaper hard drives have all but made it obsolete, other issues especially with writable dvds is that the dye degrades over time, especially if it is exposed to sunlight
Low cost , 4.7 to 8 gb data storage ,idle to create backups
cannot be reused , less data capacity while comparing with bluray disc , data will lose if disc get scratches
