The essential elements of a computer system are the things that you need for it to work. Without these, the computer system would either not work or not function properly. The main elements are;
Software: You need software for the computer to function when it is switched on. You should have an operating system. The operating system interface is the brain of the computer that keeps it functioning. The most popular operating systems in the world are produced by Microsoft although others are produced by companies such as Apple and Linux.
Hardware is also needed to make the computer function. Pieces of hardware that are necessary are the screen, mouse, keyboard, disk drives, fans to cool the computer and the processing units. Hardware is anything you can see on the computer really.
Input devices are also needed. These input anything that is required into the computer. The most important part of the computer is a power cable. This is an input device. Another very important input device is the LAN cable that connects the computer to a network.
Output devices. These are anything that is used to output from the computer. Speakers output sound and the screen outputs all of the visual elements.
Processing units are also vital to any computer. These consist of the motherboard, where all of the information is stored, RAM which stands for Random Access Memory and helps the computer remember what is going on. The hard drive is where all of the date and software is saved and also required is a video or graphics card so that the computer can handle image and video. All of these elements are cooled by a fan to prevent the computer from overheating.
