The rating should remain at twelve and above. Some parents may be okay with younger children playing it. That's their call.
I still say that parents should monitor their youngsters while they play and, also monitor how much time they play. It is easy for any one, adult or child to neglect other things in the joy of playing. Also there are sites where a person could get custom skins and hacks to undo the nudity blur as well as explicit add on's. You don't want your child exposed to that, or yourself! There are a lot of twisted people in the world that will gladly turn something innocent into something bad, and trap your child into it.
So. In short, it is up to the parent, not the child.
You have to do research and decide for yourself, with your own concience if it is a game you want your child to play. Monitor the sites they visit, get to know what they are into, and sometimes, just playing the game with them can give you a better understanding, and keep them on the right track.
Hope this helps.

Sims 3 is comepletely appropriate for a 12 year old. I wouldn't reccomend it to lower ages because its very advanced. You have to feed your Sim, buy a home, pay bills, and support yourself or family with a job. When you are taking a shower or using the restroom, it blurrs it out. You also can have WhooHoo, which can be avoided, so can "Try  for Baby", by just creating a Sim baby on your own.  Also you can get married, or get a boyfriend, or girlfriend. You can kiss, flirt and embrace, but those can easily be avoided too! I would NOT recomend playing online because many people are messed up and do innappropriate things. Anyway, it's any parents call., but my point is it's appropraite for 12 year olds.

• I think its fine for 12-13 year olds. However, some people think it’s 'inappropriate' because of the ability to "Woohoo". That's the term for sex in the game. Since it's realistic, babies have to come from somewhere, but they wanted to keep the rating appropriate, so that's why it's Woohoo. They also replace alcohol with juice, and censor nudity. I started playing The Sims when I was about 9 years old, and I still play it now, at the age of 16. I think it's a perfectly okay game for them to play, and actually recommend it. In a way, while being entertaining, it can also help one to think about what they want in real life too. :) Hope I helped.”

I started playing the first PC Sims since I was 6 and I've found it VERY enjoyable! It is rated 12 but I think its a little bit of a stupid rating because, yes there is Woohoo but besides that nude is blurred out and alcohol is replaced with juice. There is no reason for anybody under 12 to not enjoy this game!!!

Hello
Samantha! Are you serious?! The game is really outdated, and these days I am
only interested in this arcade platformer: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/electricity-game-dashes-high/id963759829?mt=8 . It is very true that maxis.com
had a good ride with Sims 3! Back in 2009, when I discovered it on
play.google.com, it had millions of players and the community was growing every
day. However, you will have to admit that things have now changed! Most users
have moved to next-gen titles and these are really tough challengers. Check
this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0sQAj9p_ppU. Hope this helps and happy
gaming!
