"Digital Versatile Disc". The invention of the DVD was a process in which
many individuals and companies took part, putting forth rival plans until all
parties agreed on a final format. It was developed during the years 1992 through 1995,
based on a concept first put forward in 1986 by Warner Home Video, according to
USA Today.
