Each Pokemon has a different effort value (EV). When a Pokemon is defeated in battle it will give effort values to the Pokemon which it was battling against.
Not only does each Pokemon have a different amount of effort values but they also each have effort values for its different skills.
These skills are:
- HP
- Attack
- Defence
- Sp. Attack
- Sp. Defence
- Speed
A Pokemon could have a few effort values in one skill, and a few in another.
For example the Butterfree has 2 effort values in Sp. Attack and 1 in SP. Defence, giving it a total of 3 effort values.
The Dusknoir has 2 in defence and 1 in Sp. Defence, giving it a total of 3 effort values. No Pokemon has more that 3 effort values and the majority of the time they are contained to one skill, it is not often that the EV's are spread between skills.
As there are hundreds of Pokemon, I won't list every single one here. The well-known Pokemon knowledge base Bulbapedia has already made a full list of all Pokemon and their effort values, which can be found here:

Every 4 effort points a Pokemon is given in a particular skill, will translate as another point in that stat. The more points a Pokemon has, then the better it will perform in battles!
