Animated GIFs aren't supported directly on Facebook (they aren't supported on Blurtit either). You'll find GIFs everywhere on platforms like Tumblr though.
Facebook has repeatedly said they won't support GIFs, although some companies have tried to get around it.
One such brand is Giphy.
They managed to dupe the whole world for a few minutes that GIFs were now on Facebook. Rather, what they were using was a Flash wrapper that worked a little bit like a video file on loop.
Mashable even published an article about how they were outraged about this "con".
Personally, I don't see the big deal about GIFs not being on Facebook.
Yes, GIFs are cool, but there's plenty of places to enjoy them already... Do you really need them in your Facebook feeds as well?
