GPRS is used by smart phones to allow it to connect to your carrier which therefore allows you to roam. It is a wireless phone network that allows you to make calls from your smart phone and also lets you receive voicemails. GPRS is also able to carry your own voice over airwaves. Sometimes GPRS needs to be turned on (opened) in the event that it is turned off (closed) so that you can choose a network to connect to.

Here is how you open your GPRS

  • Bring up the menu screen of your phone.
  • After this, you should choose the 'Setting' option and then select either 'Network Settings' or 'Phone Settings' depending on the model of your cell phone.
  • The next option that you should select is 'Airplane' or 'Wireless Mode'. This too will depend entirely on the model of your cell phone. Once you have found this you should select 'On' or 'On Checkbox' to turn on your phone's GPRS.
The process is slightly different if you want to open your GPRS for voicemail. Once you have accessed the menu of your phone and you have clicked Settings, do the following:

  • Choose 'Messaging Settings'.
  • Then, select the icon or option for the 'Voicemail'
  • In order to make sure that you are able to receive voicemails, you will need to make sure that it is set to 'On'.
Just like with the two previous instructions, the first step is to open up your GPRS for network is to select the Menu and find your phone's 'Settings'.

From there you should choose 'Network Selection' and then click on 'Default Setup' which will open up your phone's network configuration options.

Scroll down the list until you reach 'Manual' to change the default setting for automatically selecting the network.

Choose the network that you wish to connect to and make sure that the connection is successful. You should test the connectivity to the new network by making a phone call or sending a text message.
