Nowadays, all laptop batteries and the chargers that accompany them are required to be disposed of in a environmentally friendly manner. In the United States, there are quite a few computer retail outlets and stores that you will be able to take your battery to and they will take it off your hands and recycle it. Check all the hardware and computer stores that are around in your area to see if any of them do this recycling scheme. A lot of the major manufacturers will also take them off your hands in you can take the time to mail it to them.

You can just put your laptop battery in with your regular trash when you throw it out, however, laptop batteries contain mercury which can cause extreme damage to the environment. Which is why the majority of companies have set up schemes to recycle batteries and organisations out there exist to help you recycle yours.

There is also a great website that you can check out: www.call2recycle.org/home.php?c=1&w=1&r=Y/ which is a non-profit organisation that is dedicated to recycling laptop batteries all over the United States in an effort to prevent damage to the environment.

This organisation has drop off locations that are situated in the majority if not all of the states. When you click on the above link, you will be directed to the Call2Recycle homepage. On the right hand side you will see an option to enter your ZIP code and then click search. You will shown the location and directions from the ZIP code you entered to your closest recycling location.

The Call2Recycle program is not just available in the United States. They have locations all over the world where you can take your old, dead or unused laptop batteries and chargers to and have them recycled.

Recycling your laptop batteries is a great way to do your bit and look out for the environment.

In the US, you can take your battery to most computer retail outlets for recycling, including CompUSA, COmputer City, Circuit City, etc.  Many of the major manufacturers will also accept them for recycling if you care to take the time to mail to them.

Also you can check this site, as well, to see if there is a location near you that is part of the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Program, a non-profit organization with partners worldwide.  The site is also available in other languages.  Here is the link to the website so you may check:

And by the way, I think it is quite responsible of you to be thinking of this and doing your part to protect our environment/earth.

Thank you very much Yergamon. But, I'm not trying to dispose of the battery, I'm disposing of the power charger that connects to an electrical outlet.

Of course! My mistake. I will see what I can find further on this, and I hope my answer didn't remove your question from circulation here.

Battery chargers are not considered hazardous. Just toss it into the regular garbage.
