The main characteristic of a parallel circuit is that it has more than one path for current to flow. Some of the applications could be found on a battery bank; putting more than one battery in parallel provides more amp capacity. Connecting devices in parallel allows the same voltage potential across all loads like the outlets at home but increases the total current on the circuit. Parallel circuits could be used as current dividers just like series circuits were used as voltage dividers.
