If you were using a 6 mega pixel camera to take the photos, a 32gb flash drive would hold about 10,000 photos.
This link has a chart of storage capacities for 1GB to 32GB SD Cards for Cameras up to 12MP.
A 32GB SD Card will hold about 6000 Pictures for a 10MP Camera.

It would depend upon the type and size of your photos.
If you define an average photo, a .jpg, as being roughly 5 Kb, and you convert between Gb and Kb as powers of 2, you can hold over 6,700,000 pictures. That's almost 7 million pictures.
If, instead, they were bit maps (.bmp) which can be a little bigger (say 37 Kb), you could hold over 900,000 pictures, or almost 1 million pictures.
Now if you were doing landscape photography or rather larger pictures, you'd still be able to hold a fair shake.
The biggest image I think I've ever personally owned was in the neighborhood of 1 Mb. If all of your pictures were 1 Mb, you'd still be able to store over 30,000 images.
