There are a number of different websites that allow you to send free text messages using a computer. One of these sites is www.onlinetextmessage.com. The process is quite simple. Firstly you need to enter the phone number you wish to send the text message to. You will then need to provide your e-mail address. A subject heading is needed and you will also be asked to choose the mobile carrier of the person you are texting. Then you can enter the message (up to 100 characters) and click send message.
You also have the option of picking an abbreviated quick text; there are hundreds available to choose from. The entire process is free of charge and it is available to anyone who has access to the Internet. The phone you are texting must be SMS enabled. Www.textem.net also provide a free service, however they do warn that the receiver may pay a charge for receiving the text message. Again, the only details that are needed are the recipient's mobile telephone number, the mobile carrier, and the message. This site allows up to 155 characters and the e-mail address is optional.
You will also be required to enter a security image before your text can be delivered to the recipient. Text messages can be sent to any of the United States cellular services and you can also block your own phone from receiving texts from the site. You can also send texts from your computer using Instant Messenger and e-mail. If you are resident in the UK and have a contract with the provider O2, you can send up to 10 free text messages to other phones from your computer each day, providing your register your phone online.

You could try sending a text message directly from a website that offers free text messaging.

Try these sites:

www.onlinetextmessage.com

www.boltblue.com

www.textem.net

Some of these sites may require you to pay whereas others may be completely free. If you are looking for a free text messaging service then make sure you check the terms and conditions of each site before you send any messages.

Hope this helps!

Try TextPort.com - http://www.textport.com - It's a reliable online texting site. You can send and receive texts to any mobile device in the U.S. For free. The delivery time is very fast (about 5 seconds) and they don't append ads to the end of your message like other sites do. Registration is optional, but worthwhile because you'll be able to set up contacts and access an online inbox, message history and other features.TextPort.com also offer picture (MMS) messaging for files up to 3MB.You can also send and receive international texts. Outgoing messages cost about 2 cents, but they give you 10 free credits (good for 10 messages) when you register, so you can try it first for free. Incoming international texts are free. Ultra cheap compared to a $0.45 round-trip text message sent from an AT&T or Verizon account.
