Of all the stuff (news, history, etc) on the internet, how much is fact and how much is folklore? And how are we to know the difference?

As a Professor once told me "History is what we tell ourselves, about ourselves, about the things we want to hear". History is written in a way that we want to hear it.

Take any subject at random, for arguments' sake, such as American History. When looking at the American Revolution, American Historians will give a very different interpretation than that of British Historians. The point of view from the eyes of African-Americans, Indians, Canadians, or British loyalists of the time is very different than the views of the American rebels. History is not a one-way street. In order to get the most accurate idea of a field of history it is best to look at things from all views.

Don't just look at American or European or African or Asian history from a singe perspective. Try to get all sides of something.
