You're right, Sony has stopped making laptops. In February 2014 Sony announced that they were selling their Vaio laptop division.

This decision was made after they recorded record losses for six out of the last seven years.

Sony Vaio were once one of the biggest names in laptop production, but in recent years sales have dropped with the increasingly popularity of Apple computers, smartphones and tablets.

Sony have also sold Bravia, their TV producing division. Despite a downturn in TV and laptop sales, the company have had far more success in the gaming market, with the Playstation 4 being particularly successful. They will also continue production of the Xperia smartphones and cameras.

Although manufacturing and sales have been discontinued, Sony customers will continue to receive customer support on items they have already purchased.
