Castrol India Limited has so far had two brand ambassadors from the world of cricket. They have had a long association with the current captain of the Indian cricket team, Rahul Dravid and the dashing Australian wicket-keeper/batsman/vice-captain Adam Gilchrist. Besides being ace batsmen, dashing wicket-keepers and having been both the vice-captain and captain of their respective teams, both Dravid and Gilchrist are eminent and respected personalities both on and off the cricket field for their amicable nature and dependability in times of a crisis. They are known as "Mr. Dependable" in cricketing circles for rescuing their teams from difficult positions on innumerable occasions. It is this virtue they possess—reliability—which Castrol India Limited also represents.
Castrol, the top engine oil brand in the country, has also recently signed up model-turned-Bollywood actor John Abraham, the current heart-throb and youth icon and an avid biker himself, as the brand ambassador. John, with his dashing looks and long hair, was able to convincingly look the part of the anti-hero in the 2004 hit movie Dhoom, produced by Yashraj Films, which revolved around three men—a cop and a mechanic duo (played by Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra respectively) in hot pursuit of the leader of a gang of thieves (played by John)—riding fast bikes.
