DBMS stands forDatabase Management Systems, and refers to a software system which manages and organises incoming data to allow it to be modified or extracted by the users.
To understand this further, let's look at what exactly a Database is.
Database Technology
Is a collection of interrelated data.
Contains the storage of "traditional" alpha and numeric data, but could also be multimedia data - an example of which is YouTube.
Has an intended group of users.
In addition to organising the data, DBMS's make life easier for organisations in other ways too:
Prevents duplicated data
Provides back-up and recovery of data
Reduces manual maintenance time required by users, and therefore increases all-round efficiency.
Highly customisable to mould to the specific needs of the business.
