It's possible, but you cannot do it by simply clicking "delete" on your cellphone, you will have to connect it to the computer, via USB. Then delete it from the computer with a program like Evidence Eliminator, this is just a guess from my side, but I am pretty sure it will impossible to recover your messages, even for the police or the military.
