According to Google, it's mission is to "organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful."

No mean feat. You certainly can't fault them for lack of ambition. As mission statement go, it's short and snappy, and about all that can be clearly identified as a mission statement in the usual sense.

However, you should visit Google's corporate site where there is an entire section entitled, "Our Philosophy". Take a look at the Ten Things page which sets out "Ten things Google has found to be true". Here, Google co-founder, Larry Page is quoted as saying, "The perfect search engine would understand exactly what you mean and give back exactly what you want."

Their corporate site's Business Overview page is also illuminating, stating that "Google has chosen to ignore conventional wisdom in designing its business." Perhaps this is just as telling as a proper mission statement.
