I see you are studying from the book Computer Networks by Andrew S. Tanenbaum. Well here is his answer from his "solutions" book.

SOLUTIONS TO CHAPTER 5 PROBLEMS
1. File transfer, remote login, and video on demand need connection-oriented service. On the other hand, credit card verification and other point-of-sale terminals, electronic funds transfer, and many forms of remote database access are inherently connectionless, with a query going one way and the reply coming back the other way.

One example of connectionless application system is the Outrich.com Point of Sales (POS) System. It works even offline. This POS on cloud is independent of your connectivity status! The POS application still continues as per normal while offline, but once connection is available, the system will synchronize orders, customers, inventory and transactions. This allows assurance that in any situation you can continue to run the system.
