Check your keyboard settings. If they are set to a foreign setting, put them back to your settings. This could be US Keyboard, UK Keyboard, UK Dvorak Keyboard, or something else.
My laptop's upper row of buttons stopped working except Tab,T,Y,[,] and\. However when remapping keys in a game after pressing one of the non working keys instead of not doing anything it said "Unknown key"?
