The "new generation" has always taken over technology, because they are introduced to it at a young age, and have no old habits.  When radios were introduced into society, the new generation adapted to it, and used it more than the old generation. (or the new generation was taken over by the new technology) It has always been this way.

When parents started using it for a babysitter. Kids learned to electronics to amuse themselves instead of their own imagination.

I think it has slowly been taking over generations since the 80's. Every new device gets jumped on and used. Now it's almost everything and everywhere. Hard to pin an exact date to when it really started to rule. Video game consoles and cell phones started it.

The technology that most rules this generation is 'electronics'.

Electronic technology began in 1905 with the invention if the vacuum tube by John Ambrose Flemings.

All my cousins are about 6-10 years younger tha than me.  They're, a bit better now, but when they were younger, my aunt used to just give them their iPads, and they would sit playing Minecraft for hours on end, even while we were over there.  My youngest cousin, who is 4 is definitely more obsessed with technology than his older sister, who is 7, and she is more obsessed with it than her older brother, who is 8.  My 11 year old brother watches more television than I did at his age.  I spent all my time outdoors, whereas I spend more time doing things than he does.  I think that you learn habits from your older siblings, and unconsciously focus in on one or more.  You grow lazy because you have your older siblings to do all the cleaning, all the babysitting, so because you were introduced to technology at such an early age, you just succumb to its evils.  I think that parents should limit the time their children spend on devices to an hour a day, out even less.
