Nope.
It doesn't matter so much for modern batteries, but older batteries - that is what was recommended, to prevent them from developing a "memory".
Is it bad if I constantly drain my phone battery down to where it dies and then plug it in? Am I hurting it somehow?

I just read an article that says that it's perfectly okay. And I've been doing that for years and my phone's never given me any trouble.
It's actually somewhat conditioning the battery by doing this. It hurts the battery when you leave it plugged in for long periods of time even when it's fully charged.
