I would say it is a multi point connection. In the old days, when you talked to the operator directly, and your phone line was plugged directly into the other persons line it would be point to point. Now however, you must access area code router, first three number router and then line router. Multi points. Plus, you are sharing lines with other calls(at high frequency).
