Well, the most difficult thing about this question is just what these three letters stand for. They haven't all been put in upper case, but that would suggest a typing error as they obviously are meant to be an abbreviation of some sort.

But, without knowing the exact meaning of the letters, it is very difficult to come up with an answer.

It would suggest from the question that it has something to do with circuit boards. There are many forms of STR available, from circuit breakers to integrated circuits.

  • There are several different types of circuit board, but by far the most popular is the Printed Circuit Board or PCB. A printed circuit board has copper canals running across it, with space for different components that make up the board.
  • The Printed Circuit Board was first invented in England in 1936 by Austrian Paul Eisler when constructing a radio, but it wasn't until several years later that the technology was used more widely for switches during the Second World War.
  • As well as the Printed Circuit Board there are two other forms of circuit which can be found in use. The Strip Board has parallel strips of copper down one side and holes every 0.1 of an inch - it can be cut to the appropriate size simply by using a hack saw.
  • The most primitive form of a circuit board is a Bread Board. This is a board which has no soldering and most of the components are set up purely as a trial before they are used on a PCB.
