Most cell phone providers out there will not advertise that their phones are compatible with most cell phone service providers, but the fact is that your phone is most likely to be compatible with all cell phone providers. The cell phone manufacturers will simply put in some kind of special programming that allows the phone to only work with a SIM card of a particular cell phone service provider. This software is made, however, so that it can’t be reversed without some kind of special procedure. Do keep in mind, too, that it works only on phones that use sim cards. In the UK this is most phones, but in the USA this is only ATT and T-Mobile.

To do this yourself, you’re going to need a piece of paper, a working telephone and a customer service number. For T-Mobile in the United States, the customer service rep number will be 611. Go on the Internet to find the number, or you may find that the number is already built into your phone’s address book.

You should get in touch with the customer hotline and tell the person that you’re talking to do that you want to go about unlocking your phone. If the person on the other end just asks you too many questions or tells you that it can’t be done, then you will need to tell them that you’re going out of the country and need to use the phone with a foreign sim card. This usually makes the provider more lenient in regards to letting you unlock your phone, and the chances are they will tell you how to go about unlocking the phone for your ‘holiday’.

They will give you a code to type into your phone and you will be able to make the phone work with any SIM.

Read this and educate yourself ...... I recently purchased an LG Dare and was assured it was clear, unlocked and simply had to activate the phone.  When I attempted to activate the phone I was directed to a customer serv. Tech. Who informed me the phone was on a Lost or Stolen list.  I attempted to provide the seller's information to Verizon and they said they were not in the enforcement business and refused to accept the information.  I was Pis..d that Verizon would gladly place the phone on the Lost or Stolen list but refuse the information necessary to return the phone to the rightful owner or report it to the police dept.  They wouldn't provide me any information regarding what police dept. Might have authority to address the issue.  Verizon is the Villain just as much as the person who found the phone ... At least he/she admitted they found the phone.

I have the same problem, I unlocked it by calling my service provider... They gladly helped me and activated it as my own, although the rightful owner was my uncle and he gave me the phone all you have to do is tell them where you got it and try doing it that way some people just like to make others feel bad when in reality I'm sure they wouldnt even return the phone :)

If this mobile does not use a sim card then it will be unlocked by the software of this mobile for using other network. Connect it with your computer and unlock this mobile phone.

Since you know the phone was reported lost or stolen why not do the right thing and take it to a verizon store where it can be returned to the rightful owner. It would be nice to see someone with character in this day and age. I'm sure if you lost yours you would want someone to be a "good samaritan"

I have a similar experience where I bought a cell phone off of a friend's friend and I insisted that he stole it but...the idiot that I am I ended up buying a LG enV touch for $80 so I tried activating it and it was reported stolen or lost so now I lost $80...and a useless phone...and I still can't find anyone who can unlock the phone...I heard the only way for it to be unlock was to contact the owner and have that person unlock it..but that would be really stupid way...and get caught up...

I lost my Verizon LG enV recently and reported it lost or stolen to Verizon right away.  Only verizon can reactivate a phone that has been lost or stolen, so it really not worth anything to you.  Please check Craigs List and see if you can locate the person that lost the phone.  I'm offering a reward to anyone that finds my phone.

I just lost my T-Mobil MotoRazr V3 at Public restroom last Tuesday, I post lost info. And reward for $25.oo   ... I don't think I will get it back, since I just found out others can just buy it and unlock it and use it with new sim card. Even I reported it right a way for lost at T-Mobile.

Well...:-(  I am very sad, but I have to admit It is my fault that I left it behind.  I am going to use my brother's old Verizon LG phone and hope my new T-Mobile sim card will be fit into this old LG Phone.

Wish everyone who has cell phone don't do the same mistake I did.   Good day.

My advice if you are going to buy a used phone from someone is to call and activate the phone right there in front of the seller.....before you hand over the cash.

I think the fact that you want to keep and use a phone that is known to be lost or stolen makes you SCUM . Do the right thing and return it. I hope you get a computer virus that freezes everything you own.

You just simply can't do that. It is CDMA protected. You would have to have a GSM phone if your using cingular/ at&t. And another thing would be nice if you attempted to get it back to them.
