I personally have a 200 amp service. I am not sure what new home being built are getting but I would say 200 amp would be plenty. If you call around to a few electrical companies and ask what is normal you can find out what people in your area are getting.

Think about the future, Do you ever want a HOT TUB? ELECTRIC COOK TOP?  DRYER? DOUBLE OVENS? WELDERS, KILNS Or anything like that
